Crabapples in the Former Residence of Guo Moruo
18 Qianhai West Street, Xicheng District
The Former Residence of Guo Moruo, located at 18 Qianhai Street, is a two-courtyard compound that covers more than 7,000 square meters. It was formerly part of the mansion of the owner of Ledarentang, a time-honored brand of traditional Chinese medicine that dates back to the early days of the Republic of China period (1912-1949). In November 1963, Guo Moruo moved into the residence from 5 Xisi Compound in Beijing, and had spent his late years here until he died of illness in 1978.
In front of the main hall are growing two midget crabapples. In April, blooming flowers droop on the trees, presenting a visual feast. There is another crabapple tree between the wandering corridor and the side hall. It is so tall that passersby can see its thick blossoms from the street outside.
Lilacs in the Former Residence of Lu Xun
21 Xisantiao Hutong, Fuchengmen, Xicheng District

Lu Xun spent his last days in the residence at 21 Xisantiao Hutong, Gongmenkou, Fuchengmen. This was the only of his four former residences in Beijing that has been listed as a national key cultural relic protection site, as well as the best-preserved of them. In the north and south of the courtyard are three rooms respectively, while on the east and west sides are one room each. The residence retains its look when Lu Xun lived here.
Inside the yard are two lilacs planted by Lu Xun. Almost a century old, they are still thriving with vitality. In the flowering season, the entire courtyard is imbued with the delightful scent of the lilacs. Some blossoms protrude outside the compound, sharing their aroma to passersby.
Pear Blossoms in Zhihua Temple
5 Lumicang Hutong, Dongcheng District
When talking about ancient building complexes famous for pear blossoms, the first to come into people’s minds would be the Palace Museum. Compared to the extremely popular Palace Museum, Zhihua Temple offers a chance to enjoy pear blossoms while avoiding crowds of tourists. Besides, there are also lilacs, crabapples, and magnolias, making it an ideal place to enjoy spring blossoms, though it is less popular.

Zhihua Temple has two old pear trees growing in the middle yard, one in front of the Sutra Hall and the other in front of the Zhihua Hall. In the flowering season, pear blossoms as pure as jade and as white as snow create an impressive vista, adding an elegant touch to nearby ancient buildings.
丁香
Lilacs

In the front yard of the temple are two ancient buildings: the Bell Tower and the Drum Tower. There are also two lilacs in the east and west of the yard: one is white and the other is purple. Usually, the purple lilac blossoms earlier than the white one. In the flowering season, the scent of lilacs suffuses the yard of the ancient temple that features red walls and black roof tiles.

Visitors may enjoy spring flowers in Zhihua Temple at night, which appear even more captivating in the dim light. Unfortunately, the temple is under renovation this year, and flower lovers have to wait for the next spring.
Wild Peach Blossoms in Sanlihe Park
At the intersection between South Lucaoyuan Hutong and Qunzhi Hutong, Dongcheng District

Less than 100 meters away Qianmen Street, Sanlihe Park is a tranquil getaway hidden in the noisy city proper. Longxu Ditch, an important drainage system in old Beijing which was described by Lao She in his eponymous drama, was located here. Due to lack of management, the place was once flooded with sewage water. After renovation, it has been transformed into a scenic spot featuring murmuring streams, singing birds and fragrant flowers in Beijing.
The park was built along a small river. Lining the watercourse are lawns, corridors, bridges, and pavilions, with an elegant touch like water towns in southern China. There are many wild peach trees along the river. In the flowering season, pink beach blossoms and green willow twigs set off each, composing a spring picture vibrant with life.
