As recorded in the Annals of Folk Customs in the Jingchu Region, “The fifth day of the fifth lunar month is called the Bathing-in-Orchid Festival... People pick mugwort to make human-shaped ornaments and hang them on doorways to prevent miasma.” Using natural plants to ward off evil and pestilence is a sign of reverence for life; remembering ancient sages has become a cultural gene of the Chinese people.
