Hello, everyone! Welcome to “Unique Chinese Words”！
The word we talk about today is “online car-hailing”.
In recent years, some car-hailing apps have been becoming popular in China’s major cities. Through those mobile applications, passengers can submit a trip request and then easily book a ride from the nearest private car owners or taxi drivers. However, such apps have been a topic of controversy.
On July 28th 2016, the Chinese Ministry of Transport issued provisional rules on online ride-booking services, which marks the legalization of the online car-hailing services. The new rules will be put into effect on November 1, 2016.
For example: The regulation requires that car-hailing platforms review the qualifications of drivers and their cars to guarantee safe rides.
